Recent email from Chris Marsh, an historian at Queen’s University, Belfast, and “in association with others I have just launched a new, free website that might be of interest to your members:
The website focuses on over 100 hit songs of the 17th century, and it includes images, new recordings and a wealth of other information.
I can’t promise songs about Hartington in particular but no. 106, A Strange Banquet; OR, The Devils Entertainment by Cook Laurel, is a fantastical tale about a diabolical and cannibalistic feast that allegedly took place in Derbyshire (unfortunately misprinted as ‘Devonshire’ on the original sheet!). Elsewhere on the website, there should also be plenty of other material here for historical enthusiasts to explore!”
