Derbyshire Dales residents have been reminded that the Christmas and New Year bank holidays mean some bin collection days change over the festive fortnight.

But the good news for households whose usual collection day is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is that Christmas and New Year waste and recycling collections in the two weeks immediately before and after Christmas Day do not change.

Monday 28 December is a bank holiday but the District Council’s waste and recycling partner Serco will collect as normal that day.

The Friday collection scheduled for Christmas Day itself will take place earlier on Saturday 19 December and the Friday collection scheduled for New Year’s Day will take place later, on Saturday 2 January.

So bin teams won’t be collecting on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, but will be working extra days on Saturdays 19 December and 2 January.

Residents are asked to note that no additional household waste will be collected, so are advised to make sure all their household waste is contained in their grey bin with the lid shut, or, for homes on a sack collection, in four standard sized black sacks.
