Our 2023/4 lottery has got off to a great start with 71 current subscribers. The lottery income this year will act as seed money to fund the refurbishment of our toilet areas. The estimated cost of the refurbishment is £16,500 and a grant application for £13,500 has been submitted to the newly launched UK Shared Prosperity Fund (Community Resilience Scheme) – quite a title isn’t it? The dialogue so far has been positive and we should know the outcome in a few short weeks. They have been impressed by the level of community support for our recent roof, heating and kitchen refurbishments. The first draw, embracing both September and October prizes for £100, will take place on Wednesday October 11th. A huge THANK YOU to those who have already subscribed as the grant application was able to show strong early support. If you are still considering whether or not to be involved this year a copy of the application form is attached.
Main Hall: our badminton court markings have suffered in recent years and we took the decision to lift up the several layers of previous tape and lay a new court. Thanks go to Andy B and David G for removing the old tapes and for laying out a new court and for Anthony W who did a sterling and much needed clean of the entire floor.
Saturday 30th September: American folk duo ‘Hungrytown’ will perform at the Hall. A bottle bar will open at 7.15 with the first of two sets starting at 8.00. Tickets in advance at £10 can be got from the Post Office, Liz B or myself. However tickets will also be available on the door. To give a flavour here are some of the review comments:

Lyricist Rebecca Hall is credited with compositions ‘that sound as timeless as any traditional songs’ (Northern Sky, UK). Multi-instrumentalist Ken Anderson is lauded for his ‘ remarkable affinity for instrumental embellishment’ (No Depression) and for crafting Hungrytown’s ‘gorgeous vocal harmonies’ (Folk & Roots,UK).
