Young advocates of the countryside to pick up Peak Park awards at Hartington Community Lunch
Pupils from Hartington C of E Primary School in the Derbyshire Dales are set to be awarded a certificate for their work exploring the history and ecosystem of Beresford Dale.
As part of a year-long project with the Peak District National Park Ranger Service, youngsters are investigating different aspects of Beresford Dale and Milldale, including plants, animal habitats, geology, history and the future, before comparing their findings.
At a special event on Friday 12th of December 2014, Peak Park Rangers will honour pupils with a certificate for ten hours of service to Beresford Dale research, before they begin looking at Milldale.
The older, Key Stage Two children will display their findings in a selection of PowerPoint Presentations, whilst the younger Key Stage One pupils will showcase a 3D representation of Beresford Dale.
Head Teacher, Tracy Blackwell, said: “This study continues to build on previous work with the Peak Park Rangers including the Hartington Village Trail guidebook. It acts as a practical application of children’s learning and understanding and we’re hoping to use the presentation material as a display either in the YHA Youth Hostel or the Village Hall, so local people and visitors to the village can enjoy and learn from the children’s great work.”
The Beresford Dale Presentation will coincide with the School’s hugely-popular Community Lunch, which sees local, elderly residents visit the School to enjoy a home cooked meal and entertainment.
Vice Chairman of the School Governor’s, Liz Broomhead MBE, said: “When Age UK unfortunately folded in the village a few years ago, our Catering Supervisor, Anne Stubbs, was very keen for the older members of the community, as well as others, to be able to access the food and the social aspect of the group, so the idea of Community Lunch was born. Our Community Lunch events have had a massive social impact on the community, between children, school staff, parents and participants.”
The presentation of the Peak District Award via the Peak Park Ranger Service is set to take place at Hartington C of E Primary School on Friday 12th December at 11:00am.
