News from the Village Hall

On Wednesday Caroline Webster, one of our Pilates leaders, made our June draw. Number 110 was drawn and the holder of the winning number is Viv Briggs who resides at Bankside.

We have received good news lately on funding the kitchen refurbishment. The Bingham Trust has allocated us a grant for £5,000 and Foundation Derbyshire/The Freemasons have awarded us a grant of £2,000. In both cases the grants were dependent on match funding and the combined profit of the 2021/2 and 2022/3 which totals around £7,000 has therefore directly made both grants possible. While we can meet the total works outlay by drawing on our reserves, swelled by other fund raising activities, we still await news of a further grant application in the next fortnight. All contractors (Andy Wain – lead contractor, GEMS Electrical, David Nutt flooring, Howdens kitchen supplier and David Butterworth heating engineer) have confirmed a start date of 3rd July – a significant relief! We have decided to also replace the two windows, using Matlock Glass.

In other news I’m delighted to say that separately we have secured a ‘Magic Little Grant’ of £500 to support two of our smaller but absolutely vital user groups – ‘Wriggles and Giggles’ pre-school group who meet on Tuesday mornings and our ‘Chair Pilates’ Wednesday morning group.

We will now be closed for all but a very small number of evening or weekend bookings over the first three weeks in July.

We will shortly be launching the 2023/4 lottery which will be devoted to replacing the flooring in all three toilet areas, recarpeting the Lower Bakehouse and entranceway and replacing a number of windows where either the double glazing panes have ‘blown’ or where a wooden frame has rotted. We hope to undertake such work in the Autumn 2023. Watch out for news from David on the 2023/4 lottery which will commence in September. Before then we have the July £100 draw followed by the August £300 draw to look forward to.

Kind regards,

Keith and David

PS The ‘Jazz in the Village’ was a high quality, very enjoyable evening attended by over 40 in a cabaret style setting. Our next musical venture will be on Saturday 30th September featuring an American folk duo, ‘Hungrytown’. We will let you know when tickets go on sale.
